Short Term Health Insurance
May 13, 2008
Many people have never heard of short term health insurance. It is similar in quite a few ways to COBRA insurance, but is less expensive. Short term health insurance is different from regular health insurance in that you can choose how long that you want the policy to last, anywhere from thirty days to as long as two years. It is an easily affordable choice when you find yourself in need of temporary insurance to make sure the costs of your health care will be taken care of.
Why would someone need temporary insurance?
Short term health insurance is ideal for someone who may become unemployed or laid off from his or her job without any warning. It is a good feeling to know that even though you are not working at a steady job with benefits right now that you do not have to be without health insurance at all, nor does your family. Some short term insurance plans are even arranged with the policy rates set to a very reasonable price so as to appeal to those who do not have any sort of steady income.
The health care that is available to someone with short term health insurance is no different than the health care that anyone with another type of insurance would receive. Depending on the individual policy, you could get coverage for any visits to a doctor you may make, any surgery, any sort of inpatient or outpatient treatment or procedure, any other kind of hospital care or service, prescription medicine discounts, vision care and dental care.
Every person deserves to have medical insurance. Unfortunately, in the United States, some people are living with no health insurance at all. Short term health insurance deserves to be more well known for this reason alone. It could be the answer to medical care that some people have been waiting a long time for. Since it is so affordable, it is well within reach of almost anyone.
You are able to choose many things about your coverage with a short term health insurance policy. You can select the amount of your deductible, and a higher deductible will make your premium rate lower, too. You are also able to pick out whatever health care provider you would like to use and still keep your same benefits. Some short term health insurance policies also give you many other coverage options.
If you have lost your job,, you can still have health insurance when you choose a short term health insurance policy.
